Holborn Management

Holborn is an independent oil & gas consultancy company managed by highly experienced oil and gas professionals that have been providing independent advisory and consulting services for decades, Holborn is currently managed by Michael Noble, Managing Partner.

Our management team includes highly experienced oil & gas professionals from within the operations and petroleum engineering disciplines as well as career professional from the finance, capital markets and refined petroleum products trading sectors.  

Michael Noble - Managing Partner

 

Michael has over 35 years of international operating experience working for major and independent oil & gas companies and as an independent consultant, working in the Middle East, Africa, Far East, Central Asia and European regions.

 

He has held various technical and management positions ranging from seismic interpreter, geophysical advisor, exploration manager and Vice President Exploration & Production with successful operating companies including Conoco Inc, Lundin Petroleum, Dubai Petroleum Company, and Jura Energy Corporation, amongst others. 

 

Michael was involved in major field appraisal and development projects for Conoco Inc in the Southern North Sea Gas Basin and in the Arabian Gulf, and has been directly involved in large oil & gas discoveries in Europe, Africa and the Far East totaling over 525 MMboe 2P reserves. He was also co-founder of two start-up oil and gas companies having assets in eastern Europe and Pakistan. He has been responsible for building exploration and development acreage portfolios in the Middle East, Africa, Central Asia and Europe. 

 

He has a BSc Honours degree in Geology & Geophysics from Durham University, UK, and an MSc in Petroleum Geology from Imperial College, London. He is a Fellow of the Geological Society of London, a member of the European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers (EAGE), the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG), the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), and the Petroleum Exploration Society of Great Britain (PESGB).

Selected Oil & Gas Advisory Assignments

Exploration Management for an established private E&P company

 

Holborn management were contracted to provide technical guidance for the exploration, development and new venture activities of an established operator having daily production of about 6,000 boepd in assets held in central and southern Asia. This involved working with both the advisory board of the company and the operating business units regarding ongoing and planned work programs; advising on technical aspects of specific exploration and development projects; creating a strategy for existing assets and providing technical and some commercial input into new ventures evaluations. The net daily oil & gas production was doubled during this period.

Integrated subsurface interpretation for a Canadian listed International oil & gas operator

 

Holborn were contracted to provide the integrated subsurface interpretation of all geological, geophysical and well test data, including 2D and 3D seismic data and access to over 160 wells in a complex back-arc rift-basin setting in assets held in eastern Europe. This work included detailed structural and stratigraphic synthesis; seismic amplitude mapping; prospect generation at several geological target levels, preparation of resource estimates and prospect and lead inventories for a forthcoming drilling campaign. The work was carried out in the client's head office with regular meetings and interaction with the oil company technical staff. The prospect inventory was subsequently used as the basis for a farmout campaign during which Holborn management assisted with prospective farmin partners.

Exploration Management Advisory for a North American start-up oil and gas company

 

Holborn management were contracted to perform the exploration management role for a start-up oil and gas company seeking to acquire assets in the Africa & Middle East regions. The scope of work required the screening and technical evaluation of acreage and assets; data room evaluations; workstation mapping of existing 2D and 3D seismic and well data; preparation of reserve and resource estimates; basic economic analysis and PSA contract evaluation; preparation and representation of company to financial institutions, private investors, government authorities and potential farmin companies. Assets were reviewed in detail in the countries of Chad, Southern Sudan, Iraq and Mauritania. The work was carried out on location in the Middle East and Africa as well as having regular meetings and interaction with company executive management in London and North America.

Geophysical Advisory for a major UK-listed international oil and gas service provider

 

Holborn were contracted to provide geophysical advisory services to a subsidiary of a major UK-listed international oil and gas service provider having producing assets in Romania. The work included the review of existing subsurface and drilling programs and the geological and geophysical data requirements for an extensive multi-field, multi-well, infill drilling program; to make recommendations for and to implement data acquisition programs, including well log data and 3D seismic data. Some interpretation of geological and geophysical data was also carried out for deeper exploration targets as part of the review process. Holborn managed the implementation of the geophysical aspects of the project though survey design, contractor tendering, contract preparation and negotiations, seismic acquisition and processing etc. Existing 3D seismic data was reprocessed from field tapes and two new 3D surveys were designed, acquired and processed under Holborn management and supervision. The work was carried out in the Holborn and client offices with regular visits and meetings in the client 's offices and on location in the field. 

Integrated subsurface interpretation for a Toronto listed International oil & gas operator

 

Holborn management were contracted to provide the integrated interpretation of all geological, geophysical and engineering data, including 3D and 2D seismic and over 34 wells, in a complex structural and stratigraphic setting in Europe. The work included detailed seismic and geological interpretation including the generation of exploration prospects, resource estimates and incremental production opportunities.  The work was carried out in the Client's offices. 

Exploration Management for a Canadian start-up oil and gas company

 

Holborn management were contracted to perform the exploration management role for a Canadian start-up oil and gas company seeking to acquire assets in Europe. The scope of work required the identification of suitable acreage and assets for screening, the technical evaluation including data room visits; preparation of reserve and resource estimates; preparation and presentation of company corporate literature to investment houses, private investors and company brokers; representation of company to potential farmin companies. The work was carried out on location in the Europe as well as regular meetings and interaction with company executive management based in North America.
